Before answering the question you must have idea how both things are working. The
grid trade is a good option to be market neutral.
On the other hand the grid is a forex ea so both things can be similar. But it is not correct to call the grid trade a trading robot, because it is more money management than trading logic.
Other important question is is there a need to have oposite positons during trends. And in many cases the answer is yes. During long trends the oposite positions are going to make signifficant profit, for every time the market starts to oscilate. They are also making a small hedge , which of course can't compensate the whole exposition.
But the grid trade is not only money management. It also uses many parameters that make it fit better to the instrument and get better results. We cant say that the money management is the core of it. It is more risk accumulation that money management.
Actually the name is not so important and we can call it an ea, but we must make the things clear about if we want to use such accumulation in the forex trading or not. It can be risky, but what in forex is not risky? Even a simple trade can ruin the whole account during serious fundament. We have seen huge movements in the past.
Conclusion
Even if we choose the grid trade as a way to trade, we must have in mind that sooner or later we are going to have big trend. We can assume that it will be bigger than any other trend we have witnessed before. It is very important to set the right distances and choose the right starting capital and capital increment formula. If you do that you can have a long time just making small winning trades and this will lead to increasing the capital and decreasing the risk. There also need to be withdrawals , because without them there is no need to trade.
